Help

As a non-supervisory GS-14 Information Technology Specialist (Data Management), the individual is responsible for managing and maintaining systems and architecture for Hadoop, Informatica, and Linux configurations and the application of statistical, mathematical, and operations research methods and techniques to the full range of DOJ programs, activities, and functions. The individual utilizes a variety of highly technical computer software packages to accomplish assignments and develops innovative methodologies for employing data extraction, data analysis, data mining, operational efficiency, and other advanced techniques. In addition, the individual will monitor best practices and technical developments throughout government and the private sector that can be adopted to ensure efficiency and effectiveness as it relates to computer assisted assessment techniques. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining Hadoop data lake, Informatica data management and data quality applications and Linux operating systems maintain corresponding standard operating procedures (SOPs) and configuration documentation.
  • Providing Hadoop, Informatica, and Linux software and operating system patches, data backup, and restores for the individual area of responsibility.
  • Collecting, reviewing, interpreting, evaluating, and integrating data from multiple sources pertaining to extensive, interrelated financial or functional fields.
  • Developing methods of evaluating the validity, accuracy, and reliability of a broad array and high volume of information for translation into intelligence relevant to the organization.
  • Implementing data modeling methodologies and ensuring that these models are capable of responding to changing business requirements.
  • Providing technical consultation and assistance in the support of complex audits, evaluations, inspections, investigations, and reviews as well as carrying out other activities in connection with the Department's organizations and programs; routinely accomplishing data extraction and analysis of computerized files from Departmental information systems and other external sources with expert knowledge in data warehousing and data mining.
  • Providing effective team leadership including: (1) proactively identifying and resolving problems that could impact project goals; (2) establishing priorities and adjusting schedules to accomplish the work as timely as possible; and (3) effectively utilizing resources.
  • Informing the Office of Data Analytics Directors and Assistant Directors of progress, as well as issues that need to be addressed to keep the project on track.
  • Preparing data analysis results, written reports, and technical deliverables, which include charts, graphs, and other tabular representations of data, with narrative descriptions of the study methodology, findings, and problems encountered.
  • Writing documents that require the analysis of operational issues, system design and efficiency, and system efficiency.
  • Developing and conducting oral presentation and briefings on the installation, configuration, operation, and management of software operations, data extraction, data analysis, software analysis, and operational efficiency.
  • When leading teams, providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback to team members as well as to the Office of Data Analytics Director and Assistant Directors on performance and providing informal mentorship and guidance to junior staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

For all positions individuals must have IT related experience clearly demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below in your resume.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Requirements above, applicants must have the experience listed below.

For the GS-14 level: Fifty-two weeks of experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Your application package must demonstrate that you possess experience with data architecture or data modeling for large complex data sets, experience with Hadoop data lake systems, and working experience with Informatica Developer.
