Duties

Help

Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Manages the press freedom webpage and collaborate with journalists to improve Freedom coverage and enterprise.
2. Serves as the subject matter expert covering press freedom content and other newsworthy stories for global audiences.
3. Conducts extensive research and analysis, and conducts interviews for newsworthy sources.
4. Conceives, develops, and presents story ideas and daily events about press freedom.
5. Directs daily editorial decisions in collaboration with VOA editorial team for press freedom content.
6. Coordinates with social media and production teams to disseminate VOA content on all social media platforms.
7. Responsible for Press Freedom webpage to deliver press freedom content to a global audience.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12), which is directly related to this line of work for Press Freedom Editor. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, experience includes:

  • Proficiency in Communication principles and Press Freedom matters
  • Expertise in principles, practices, editorial guidelines and techniques of news gathering, including filing timely, balanced, unbiased and comprehensive reports, and making sound judgement decisions.
  • Skills as a writer, editor, and ability to report in a multiplatform environment (web, social media, TV)
  • Proficiency to serve as the subject matter expert covering Press Freedom content and other newsworthy stories for global audiences and in US policies, national and international developments, operating procedures to include other polices applicable to every news event and story covered.
