Duties

Help
  • Responsible for contacting students who have been accepted to the JC program. Within timeframes established by supervisor and in accordance with any applicable requirements in guiding handbooks, expectations, and answers questions.
  • Coordinates standardized group and/or individual test administration; administers and/or coordinates academic, credentials/certification, entrance, psychological, and vocational interest testing.
  • Coordinates briefings by instructors, counselors, medical and administrative personnel, and other staff at the Center.
  • Maintains and routes training records in accordance with the CPP plan guidelines. Updates approved changes to the CPP portion of the Career Development Service System (CDSS) plan.
  • As an instructor, follows the required course material outlined in the national Job Corps curriculum. Provides instruction, tutors, directs, guides, monitors, and supervises students.

Qualifications

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: In service applicants can qualify with at least one year at either the next lower grade level (GS-8), or the second lower grade level (GS-7). There are no GS-8 positions in the normal line of progression in the Job Corps organization; one year of specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS-7) will be creditable for in service applicants. For outside applicants, one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-8) is required.

For the GS-09 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-7 (outside Forest Service Agency) or GS-8 grade level (For Forest Service Agency); Specialized experience is defined as providing training specialists and subject matter experts in the development of Programs of Instruction; providing instruction using required materials and curriculum; providing advice and guidance to students on goal-setting, personal problem areas and educational and career development goals; and maintaining and routing course materials and training records. Communicating and accomplishing problems to progress individual and team training needs.
OR
Masters Degree. or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related to the positions;
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education directly related to the position and specialized experience.

Specialized experience is defined as providing training specialists and subject matter experts in the development of Programs of Instruction; providing instruction using required materials and curriculum; providing advice and guidance to students on goal-setting, personal problem areas and educational and career development goals; and maintaining and routing course materials and training records. Communicating and accomplishing problems to progress individual and team training needs.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
