Summary

The Director, Office of Government and Public Affairs, reports directly to the Assistant Inspector General for Strategic Communications and Programs and ultimately to the Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General.  The Director is the primary contact for Members of Congress and their staff, media and the public on inquiries related to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) products and services, including responding to Congressional, press, and public inquiries.

Duties

Help

The Director, Office of Government and Public Affairs, provides strategic guidance for OIG Government and Public Affairs programs and operations.  The Director serves as point-of-contact for Congressional inquiries and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Congressional staff.  The Director also serves as OIG liaison to the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) and related CICIE committees and working groups and as liaison to Department of Transportation (DOT) Offices regarding legislative items of interest.  The Director manages OIG's public-facing website, oversees development of OIG's Weekly Report to the Secretary, and serves as the OGI point of contact for all media/public inquiries.  In addition, the Director conducts legal, legislative and regulatory research, review, interpretation and analysis regarding Federal and Departmental issues and activities concerning DOT programs, activities and operations.

Qualifications

You must show in your resume evidence of progressively responsible experience that is directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the following Technical Qualifications:

  • Extensive understanding of the legislative process to include working with and responding to individual Members of Congress and Committee staff, conducting research and drafting papers or talking points on transportation legislative matters, and analyzing and summarizing proposed transportation-related legislation.
  • Experience serving as a public liaison between the organization and the media, including responding effectively and appropriately to requests for information, presenting the organization's goals/mission and viewpoint, and maintaining the outward facing website.

You must be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Background Investigation:  This position requires a Top Secret security clearance and is designated as critical-sensitive, requiring that a background investigation be conducted and favorably adjudicated in order to establish security eligibility.

Financial Disclosure:  This position is covered under the Ethics in Government Act, which requires comprehensive financial disclosures from employees.  The appointee will be required to file a Public Financial Disclosure Report (SF-278e), within 30 days after his/her appointment, and then annually thereafter.
