Duties

Help
  • Provides effective material support by the integrated management and control of assigned commodity/system characterized by a high degree of equipment complexity, high dollar value, high visibility, and highly intensive level of management.
  • This includes requirements determination and forecasting, distribution or redistribution of material, depot repair and rebuild actions, procurement authorization and funds management.
  • Participates in policy making and procedural discussions and meetings with Department of the Army (DA), Army Material Command (AMC), and its subordinate.
  • Commands, other directorates, and other services for the purpose of relaying decisions and comments for the directorate and exchanging information relative to assigned commodities/systems requirements, priorities, deliveries and related matters.
  • As a senior Item Manager focusing on demand planning, provide support in the areas of statistical sampling, methodologies, forecasting techniques, trends, and use of mathematical models in the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP).
  • Provides statistical advice and assistance to LMP users, conducts reviews of demand history for weapon systems and recommends changes to forecasting techniques as required.
  • Interprets/provides input to policies and regulations related to Demand Planning (DP), Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Acquisition, and Budget/Financial applications, and the use of Math Models.
  • Employs standard statistical methods and procedures in analyzing data manually or by computer.
  • Establishes, conducts and maintains continuing liaison relationships with AMC, Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA), Army Sustainment Command, Life Cycle Management Command, (Joint) Program Managers.
  • During periods of temporary duty, incumbent has authority to make decisions within the framework of established policy. Participates in or chairs meetings to discuss and resolve major logistics problems for assigned program area and weapon systems.
  • Recommends actions for accomplishment of the logistics activities for assigned commodity/weapon systems on a worldwide basis. Also, prepares staff studies and correspondence that may have major impacts on Major Item Management or Fleet Management.
  • Command representative for LMP projects, provides research for long-term and special projects, analysis, interpretation and implementation of policies and guidelines relative to Major Item management.
  • Reviews directives and regulations to determine their application to current projects; initiates and/or participates in the development of procedures and policies for assigned items.
  • Based on relevant regulatory interpretations and exceptional knowledge of materiel control functions, reviews supply control and/or materiel planning studies and multi-year requirements studies, acquires and evaluates all relevant information
  • Based on delivery schedules, item history, depot assets, troop requirements, etc., accomplishes and distributes materiel to activities, major commands, depots or assembly sites.
  • Conducts analytical studies upon which to base decisions regarding materiel disposition to include all relevant factors such as user need, availability, condition, transportation costs, storage, training, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with repair programs disposal programs; executing demand planning and material requirements planning via the Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) (or equivalent to Logistics Modernization Program (LMP)) Enterprise Resource Planning tool; developing item repair and procurement strategies; and preparing and communicating item status and supply availability. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
