Provide a vision for scientific computing and the extraction and use of knowledge from data generated by and relevant to NIEHS research.
Coordinate scientific computing across NIH and other federal agencies/institutions. Foster new, effective technologies and procedures for scientific computing for manipulating and interpreting large and complex data.
Assist with the application of new methods and technologies emerging from the field of data science including ?big data?.
Advance the use of cloud and distributed computing approaches.
Ensure that there are outstanding training and educational programs around scientific computing available to NIEHS scientists.
Foster partnership with the CIO and other IT leaders to ensure that NIEHS IT assets are planned for and deployed to meet needs.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify for the Scientific Information Officer, GS-401-15, position at our agency, you must meet the following requirements:
A. I have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university
OR
B. I have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position
You must also meet the additional qualification requirements for a Scientific Information Officer, GS-0401-15, as described in the Qualifications Section of the Vacancy Announcement.
A. I qualify for this position at the GS-15 level because I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and implementing a plan for scientific computing and science IT; science IT planning, implementation and governance; manage science IT training and educational programs; experience working with data science/big data technologies and methods for biomedical research; coordinate ongoing scientific computing activities.
