This position serves as an Administrative Support Assistant with a District Office of the Bureau of Land Management. The incumbent will independently perform a wide variety of administrative support functions related to budget and finance, human resources, natural resources, travel, timekeeping/payroll, correspondence, records, collections, and public contact. Incumbent will provide general information concerning office operations to the public both orally and in writing.  Incumbent may also serve as a collections officer preparing appropriate receipts, records, and tracking forms; depositing monies and reconcile accounts receivable.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirements:  In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.   

GS-4 - 1 year of general experience.  General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of an administrative support assistant. – OR – successful completion of two years of higher education above high school. – OR – A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.

GS-5 - one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include preparing general correspondence, entering time and attendance records in an automated payroll system, providing assistance in the completion of records review, inventories, and dispositions in accordance with records schedule. – OR – successful completion of four years of higher education above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree. – OR – A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.

GS-6 – one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include preparing travel documents such as authorizations and vouchers in the automated travel system; assisting travelers with travel arrangements; resolving travel issues and reviewing travel records to ensure they are processed correctly; validating time and attendance records in an automated payroll system; resolving payroll issues and reviews time and attendance records; preparing correspondence for office supervisors and managers; preparing appropriate receipts, records and tracking forms; entering standardized budgetary transactions in an automated financial system; maintain a variety of files; assist property management officials with tracking and inventory; purchase supplies and equipment using simplified acquisition procedures; serves as a collection officer; and/or provide general information to the public both orally and in writing

Education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.

This position is not eligible for Telework.

These positions are temporary and are expected to last for up to 6 months. These positions have no promotion potential, if you want to be considered for a higher grade you must apply for the higher grade.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
