Qualifications

- Provides engineering and scientific support for Arctic research or engineering efforts.
- Designs and develops new systems, enhance current systems, conduct development and operational tests, analyze results and produce engineered solutions.
- Serves as the senior scientific representative for the Navy's Ice Exercise (ICE) program for the Arctic region with respect to sea ice conditions and the environment.
- Creates technical research plans, analysis, reports and executive briefings.
- Develops, test, evaluate and validate new methods and guidelines to resolve highly complex and unique Arctic challenges for drifting ice camps and submarine operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work assignments include extreme physical climbing, lifting of heavy equipment (grater than 50 pounds.) and strenuous exhaustion in nature due to daily exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions in sub-zero temperatures for several weeks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Research and test equipment support will involve working occasionally in warehouses without climate control.
Arctic exercises may also require embarking, climbing and crawling.
Ice camps require the employee to live and dwell for weeks on a remote drifting ice camp on an ice flow and traveling on commercial and military aircraft for the duration of the exercise.
Arctic exercises require daily exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures for several weeks.
