Help

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Effective delivery of care in Ophthalmology while meeting and exceeding compliance standards
Performance of surgical procedures consultation, evaluation and treatment to manage various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the ocular systems
Conduct clinics, make referrals and recommendations for treatment and/or medication and follow-up care of Veteran patients experiencing ocular problems
Perform ophthalmologic procedures
Oversees the administration of medications to patients for whom therapy is indicated
Attend Surgery Service staff meetings as well as meetings of the Medical Staff
Completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff

YAG and SLT laser procedures are performed in clinic. Bulk of clinical duties include medical management of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. Main surgical requirement is cataract surgery, although any additional skills will be welcomed. Interest in performing intra-vitreal injections would be welcomed as well.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet the specific individual eligibility requirement, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.

Total salary will include Base Component and Market Pay. Final salary to be determined by local Physician Pay Panel. Physicians are eligible for annual Performance pay of up to $15,000 annually and additional incentive awards.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: Board certified/board eligible in Ophthalmology.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
