As the Alaska Native Liaison you will:
- Analyze, interpret, develop and communicate policy direction with regards to the procedures, plans, and programs of BLM AK as they affect Alaska Natives, Native Americans, and tribal communities.
- Provide technical assistance to BLM AK managers, staff, and Washington Office staff on Alaska Native issues including subsistence, economic development, tourism, cultural and religious practices, and government to government consultation required to implement Bureau programs and actions.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of current and proposed legislation to BLM AK manager, and the Washington Office related to Alaska Native issues.
- Develop and carry out training for BLM and other federal staff on Alaska Native issues and legislative history. Represents BLM in workshops, conferences, and training to assist AK Natives, tribes, and communities in understanding BLM's land management processes and policies.
- Prepare written briefings, analyzes draft policy and recommends appropriate revisions.
- Advises management and staff in the development and implementation of cooperative partnership opportunities and relationship with Alaska Native groups and organizations and provides appropriate protocol for working with such entities.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
- Have at least 1 full year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal. Examples of specialized experience include the ability to bring together diverse Native American cultures under sensitive, controversial and sometimes hostile situations to develop relationships, resolve conflicts, and reach common solutions to benefit conservation; interpretation of Federal laws, regulations, and court decisions, Alaska Native cultures and traditional fish and wildlife use, communicating and coordinating with diverse groups of people from different cultures, public involvement programs, applying analytical methods and techniques to identify and resolve Federal subsistence management issues; and advising upper level management on complex natural resource management issues.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
