    What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

    Salary: $62,236 (Step 01) to $80,912 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

    As an Ecologist within the Southwest Biological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

    -Conceives, plans and conducts interdisciplinary studies and investigations concerning biological, physical, and anthropogenic processes that affect fire behavior across large spatial scales.
    -Uses remote sensing platforms (satellite, drone) and sensors (light detection and ranging, hyperspectral) in fire ecology applications.
    -Synthesizes and analyzes large meteorological, vegetation, topographic, remote sensing, and field-based fuels datasets to evaluate wildfire risk.
    -Contributes to publications in peer reviewed scientific journals; and attends scientific meetings to present his/her own research results and exchange information within the scientific community.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Overnight travel of 1-5 nights per month may be required.
