Duties

Help

As an Ecologist within the Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Perform quantitative analysis of climate effects on population and distribution of aquatic and terrestrial species and assesses impacts of climate on key focal ecosystems.
  • Analyze and synthesize large volumes of ecological, climatological, and landscape data sets, including point, polygon, time series, and gridded data.
  • Prepare and deliver oral and written summaries syntheses, reports, documents, briefing materials, fact sheets, handouts, and summaries of climate science relevant to fish and wildlife management partners.
  • Work with interdisciplinary team to understand impacts of climate to species and habitat and coordinate outreach to partners, including universities, relevant non-governmental groups, and other Federal and state agencies.
  • Assist with development and execution of research plans to address climate impacts to priority species and habitats.
  • Operate a government owned motor vehicle as an incidental driver.

In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

At the GS-11, examples include:  1) participating in the planning and execution of ecological or biological studies with a limited number of variables; 2) performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; or 3) conducting studies using established fact-finding and evaluation procedures. **OR a combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, that is beyond the first two years of progressive graduate study, and professional experience, as described above. 

At the GS-12, examples include: 1) design, development and conduct of protocols to analyze spatial and temporal data; 2) conduct of sampling, experimental design, statistical analyses and biometrics relative to wetlands ecology; 3) independent planning and conduct of comprehensive biological studies/investigations and requests for proposals; 4) modifying and adapting standard biological techniques and procedures; 5) serving as a technical resource on biological issues; 6) design and management of projects, studies to provide an understanding of the effects of environmental perturbations in study areas.
