Summary

About the Position: Serves as an Exhibits Specialist at the Fort Benning National Infantry Museum, Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Fort Benning, GA with responsibility for the design, fabrication and installation of permanent exhibits in the museum, temporary exhibits in off-site locations and the preparation of original artwork for museum exhibits and publications.

Duties

Help
  • Conducts research using both primary and secondary sources to establish a thorough understanding of the historical theme, periods, events and artifacts to be presented through museum displays.
  • Uses established construction techniques and materials to create aesthetically pleasing, durable and practical displays.
  • Constructs portable displays for use outside the museum which are easily transported and assembled and which meet all the same requirements as the permanent exhibits described above.
  • Examines artifacts, graphics and information to ensure accuracy and complete authenticity. Conceives and prepares original designs for museum exhibits.
  • Creates original graphic art for museum projects to include posters, pamphlets, maps, charts and illustrations for publication.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement:
have a Undergraduate or Graduate degree in a Major field of study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or industrial art fields related to the position.

OR

have Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis

.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above applicants must also meet the specialized and/or education below.

To qualify for the GS-09 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07. Specialized experience is defined as: experience with exhibit design software programs such as, but not limited to End Design, AutoCAD, Photoshop, or Corell Draw for planning and designing exhibits and exhibit support materials; Construction techniques in varied mediums such as wood, metal, and plastics for constructing and/or restoring museum exhibits; Preparing rough sketches of original artwork to be included in exhibits.

OR

have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as,Industrial Art. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
