Duties

Help

The Supervisory Digital Investigative Analyst (Deputy Director) provides supervision, technical leadership, and guidance to subordinate Digital Investigative Analysts and technical advice and assistance to the Director of the Cybercrime Laboratory. In addition, the Deputy Director:

  • Conducts and provides advice to the most difficult and sensitive computer forensic investigations that involve problems not previously encountered.
  • Uses extensive networking and forensic knowledge to assist in the forensic analysis of computer systems and network traffic records, identifying origin of connections, techniques used to gain access to systems and actions taken on computer systems.
  • Uses innovative digital investigative analysis methods, conducts complex investigations and analysis of all types of digital evidence of any criminal, civil, intelligence or national security matter.
  • Advises investigative, intelligence and prosecution personnel in matters relating to computer forensics or digital investigative analysis.
  • Briefs key officials on information and evidence gathered through investigations and examinations.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-15: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 federal grade level. Specialized experience includes: as a recognized digital or computer forensics expert, demonstrates experience supervising digital lab operations; performing searches, seizures and analysis of digital evidence from Windows computers while conducting computer forensic investigations which are civil, criminal, or administrative in nature; and training other forensic and law enforcement professionals in sophisticated computer forensics techniques.

To be found fully qualified for this position, applicants must demonstrate, in the body of their resume, their experience utilizing Access Data Forensic Tool Kit (FTK) or Guidance EnCase. Applicants must clearly and explicitly describe, in either their resume or a separate narrative statement, their use of one of these tools in the context of their current or past positions.
