Duties

Help
  • You will coordinate a broad range of historical programs and projects that include the research, writing and publication of a broad range of finished knowledge products.
  • You will help establish long range plans in coordination with Division leadership.
  • You will serve as immediate supervisor of the Histories Deputy Branch Head, and the second level supervisor for three section leads.
  • You will be responsible for the quality and timeliness of historical services provided by historians within the branch to all customers.
  • You will set priorities, monitor production, and supervise historians in specific areas of responsibility.
  • You will represent the NHHC at meetings and conferences held by DoD and private professional organizations, for purposes of planning projects, presenting professional papers, and exchanging professional views regarding Navy historical matters.
  • You will represent the Histories Branch in division and higher-level NHHC staff meetings to include vision, mission, budget and administrative matters.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Historian advising on, administering, supervising or performing research or other work in the field of history. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Implementing objectives consistent with long-term interests of an organization that take into consideration available resources, capabilities, and established policy and guidance; 2) Coordinating historical programs and products to include the research, writing, and publication of knowledge products (i.e. articles, scholarly monographs, responses to research queries, chronologies, bibliographies) in support of an organization?s mission; 3) Demonstrating the ability to communicate both orally and in writing regarding historical matters (i.e. preparing professional papers, presenting briefs, participating in conferences, exchanging professional views) to high-level colleagues and stakeholders; and 4) Performing supervisory duties of assigning work, providing technical oversight, developing performance plans, attracting new talent, taking disciplinary measures, and facilitating professional development for a workforce.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must have successfully completed a degree in history or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
