  • Develops responses to media inquiries related to mission and installation.
  • Arranges for representatives to speak to local civic or service groups.
  • Writes articles dealing with programs and activities for publication internally and externally (e.g. media).
  • Writes articles to specialized technical audiences.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Assists in preparing visual aids for events in the form of PowerPoint presentations to depict accurate data and information on the mission of the command.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships local and national media representatives and community groups.
  • Drafts responses to information requests from news media and the general public in written and oral form.
  • Assists with researching, writing and editing articles and announcements for newsletters and publications.


SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GS-11: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in an accredited college or university in the electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-12: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Informs local community of activities through various media available.
  • Writes a variety of articles, news releases and speeches.
  • Prepares visual aids for events in the form of PowerPoint presentations, and charts and graphs to depict accurate data and information on the mission of the command.
  • Plans, direct, coordinate, implement and evaluate projects and assignments supporting the mission of Public Affairs Office.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with print and broadcast media representatives.
