Duties

Help

The incumbent:

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, maintenance, and preservation of the library’s digital collections, which include digitized rare materials and special collections, image resources, and born-digital content.
  • This entails formulating procedures for the creation, accessioning, intake, and long-term preservation of the library’s digital assets.
  • Manages application of division and institutional standards and guidelines for creating, managing, assessing, preserving, describing, and delivering digital collections to Gallery staff and the scholarly community.
  • Assesses the efficacy of existing workflows and recommends improvements to processes related to digitization and metadata creation in a variety of formats.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-9 level, developing, implementing, and maintaining a systematic digitization program for a library’s acquisitions and cataloging operations.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria:

Successful candidates must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university, which included a combination of at least 24 semester hours in library science and information technology.

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated technical experience with current digital collection and content management systems, standards, platforms, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the standards, technological framework, and best practices for digital capture, scanning, metadata creation, description, access, file storage, and preservation.
