Summary

This position is located in the Forage Seed and Cereal Research Unit, Corvallis, OR. This position will support research programs conducted by the scientists in USDA-ARS at Corvallis, OR that seek to reduce farm losses due to diseases, pests, and environmental stress will conserving the natural resource base needed for agricultural production.

Duties

Help
  • Uses office automation software packages and equipment to prepare, log, and track correspondence, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Determines supplies needed for the office staff, purchases, and receives and distributes supplies and special order items.
  • Arranges travel for staff, including scheduling transportation, making room reservations, preparing travel authorizations and itineraries, and preparing travel vouchers.
  • Provides administrative support by serving as the timekeeper for staff.
  • Provides planning support and assistance to the research leader for a variety of unit functions (meetings, seminars, engagement, outreach) and backup support for other administrative positions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

For the GS-05 position:
Applicants must have one at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in federal service that demonstrates the following: 1) Providing clerical support for an office, such as answering the phone, faxing, copying, filing; 2) Using computer office software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and email; 3) Providing customer service to internal and/or external customers.

4 years of education above the high school level

A combination of experience and education

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures and USDA policy using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
