Duties

Help
  • You will analyze a proposed publication to indentify its purpose, target audience, and scope.
  • You will manage doctrine publications throughout their editorial review, design and layout, and preparation for final publishing.
  • You will identify deficiencies in organization, missing and redundant information, and statements that conflict with the facts presented.
  • You will perform technical editing functions to produce doctrinal publications that follow a logical progression, and are consistent, clear, and complete
  • You will use desktop publishing systems (e.g., Frame Maker) to apply templates, page layout, and design techniques consistent with the standard for the organization

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: using professional electronic publishing software; AND analyzing, editing, writing, and rewriting information to produce doctrinal publications.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

  1. Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR
  2. Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Education must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR

  4. Combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
