Drive forward and expand health IT initiatives CMS has already begun, such as reengineering the CMS EHR Incentive programs to focus on interoperability, and play a critical role in setting the health IT vision for the future.
Lead efforts to facilitate development of application interfaces to share data so that clinicians have access to claims data and a structured patient history that includes information like previous diagnoses and procedures and medication lists.
Engage with stakeholders from all parts of the healthcare system, including industry leaders and our Federal partners.
Provide expertise on CMS programs and policies that address health informatics , electronic data capture/exchange and interoperability when engaged with medical professional organizations on CMS activities that improve healthcare delivery.
Coordinate CMS policy efforts with a range of experts and governance processes to develop CMS's external facing policy on health informatics.
Serve as a supervisory physician supporting CMS' leadership team as well as HHS by providing expertise and professional and authoritative analysis of issues affecting CMS's health informatics program.
Plan work for subordinate staff, set and adjust short-term priorities and prepare schedules/project plans for work completion.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Evaluation of Candidates

Substitution of Experience for Residency Training: Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is essential for the performance of specialized duties. For example, specialists such as psychiatrists and surgeons must complete the number of years of accredited residency training required in their respective specialities. An exception may be made when a peer panel of physicians (subject-matter experts) determines and documents that the knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired in professional medical practice are equivalent to those acquired during the same period of time in a graduate training program.
Teaching Experience: Graduate teaching experience as a member of the faculty in a school of medicine or school or public health may be credited for training positions or as appropriate for specialist positions. (Teaching undertaken as a part of a residency or fellowship training does not satisfy this requirement).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements:
DEGREE:Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year you graduated. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
LICENSURE:
Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
