Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist at the NH-1035-3 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Manages and coordinates material submitted for security and policy review and potential public release.
  • Writes, coordinates, edits and finalizes a wide variety of materials including letters, issue and background papers, staff summary sheets, news and feature articles, news releases, memorandums for correspondence, speeches, talking points.
  • Serves as the Public Affairs representative on the MDA national conference planning committee.
  • Organizes and evaluates MDA's external website.
  • Plans, develops, produces and evaluates MDA communications materials.
  • Works with MDA two-letter organizations and other stakeholders, including industry partners, to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Develops, in coordination with OSD/PA and the MDA Legislative Affairs Directorate, procedures and systems for researching, investigating, and answering news media queries regarding aspects of BMD.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the NH 03 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-02/GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Communicating principles, methods, practices, and techniques, analytical methods, and interpersonal relations practices;
  • Demonstrating knowledge of commercial print, electronic, and internet media organizations and media communications tools and techniques;
  • Knowledge of policies and regulations relating to government publications.
  • Demonstrating skill in developing and disseminating a wide range of information and data concerning the nature and objectives of agency programs to various publics and employing all types of existing and emerging media including radio, television, newspapers, magazines, professional and scientific journals, still and motion pictures, posters, exhibits, internet, and advertisements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Fort Belvoir, VA - This position will be filled as an NH-III Medium with a starting salary range of $83,398 - $115,811 (includes 29.32% locality), unless statutory or regulatory rules prevail.

Redstone Arsenal, AL - This position will be filled as an NH-III Medium with a starting salary range of $76,859 - $106,730 (includes 19.18% locality), unless statutory or regulatory rules prevail.
