Summary

ICE is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals to join our Pathways Internship Program. The Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited/qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of "student" will not be considered.) This internship is for students who can commit to working year-round.

Duties

As a Student Trainee (Mission Support) in the Pathways Program, you will perform a variety of administrative and technical assignments intended to develop the knowledges and skills required for providing mission support to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. These entrylevel candidates will perform mission support duties and provide greatly needed resources to the agency's field offices. Typical work assignments include assisting higher level Specialists in:

  • Collecting and compiling information for such areas as budget, procurement, human resources, etc.;
  • Updating information on spreadsheets and other office documents;
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, FedEx and UPS packages;
  • Maintaining office records, files and supplies; and
  • Responding to routine questions concerning administrative procedures and requirements.

BASIC ELIGIBILITY: Pathways Internship Programs candidates must meet the qualification requirements consistent with the ICE Pathways Programs Qualification Standard applicable to the position being filled.

  • Candidate must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on a full or half-time basis as a degree-seeking student.
  • Must remain in good academic standing as defined by the school, generally at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for undergraduate programs (cumulative) and a 3.0 GPA for advanced degree programs.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained throughout the entire internship appointment.
  • Must be 16 years or older at the time of appointment.
  • Degree does not have to be related to the position/series; however to be eligible, candidate must meet the ICE Qualification Standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted.
  • If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Program Participant Agreement.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-5: Completion of 4 full academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. One full academic year is described as a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university, and/or a minimum of 36 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week.

National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
