Summary

This position is part of the TX 149th Fighter Wing and is located in Kelly AFB, Texas. Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. Fully responsible for providing detailed technical insight on individual aircraft's level of Mission Capability (MC), then develops and recommends a comprehensive course of action to maintain the aircraft at Full Mission Capability (FMC).

Duties

Help

As an Aircraft Mechanic (Title 32) with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft.
  • Ensures aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems(MIS) accurately reflect the airworthiness of the Aircraft.
  • Performs in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components under going repair, overhaul and/or modification to verify and certify by signature adherence to work techniques, procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications.
  • Plans, develops and conducts training during the technician work week to a multi facet workforce comprised of from 3 to 8 assigned military positions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Air National Guard.

Areas of Consideration: Nationwide Excepted. This includes:

  • All currently employed full-time permanent, Indefinite, or temporary personnel of the Texas Air National Guard
  • All current members of the Texas Air National Guard, and individuals immediately eligible for membership in the Texas Air National Guard who meet the compatibility requirements.
Incentives: Acceptance of a military Federal technician position may result in termination and / or repayment of military incentives. Please check your contract and contact your servicing Education Services (Incentives) office or the Recruiting/Retention office.

Remarks:
  • Incumbent will be expected to attend 2A3X3 Tech School
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance within 1 year of appointment.
  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Veteran's Preference does not apply to this position.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible Military Assignment (per UMR): Applicants must possess the AFSC to apply or be considered; applicant must be Duty AFSC assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations upon selection.

Enlisted: A1C (E-3) to SSgt (E-5)

Compatible Military Assignments:
AFSC: 2A3X3, 2A3X8, 2A5X4, 2A3X5

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
To qualify at the WG-12 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
