    This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, National Archives and Records Administration. As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will be providing technical assistance to Federal agencies in the management of their records.

    Responsibilities

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-7. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

    • Reviews SFs 135 prepared by Federal agencies and verifies that the information supplied is complete, accurate, and conforms to operational procedures and Federal agency records management guidelines.
    • Processes forms and documents to accomplish records disposition or accessioning, and reviews all records listed as eligible for disposal or accessioning.
    • Contributes to local space planning and analysis, taking into consideration variables such as type of record, reference activity, and retention period, and recommends locations for new transfers where extensive relocation of records is not involved, or proper space is readily available.
    • Provides technical guidance to staff performing reference services, the searching, shelving and relocation of records, and related activities; and, advises and provides technical assistance to records officers, requesters, and staff in resolving reference service problems caused by inadequate finding aids, poor arrangement of records or improperly prepared agency requests.
