    The Director, Safety is responsible for managing and providing safety advice, guidance and oversight of National Airspace System (NAS) operations and equipment, including the conversion of safety and quality data into management information. The incumbent establishes ATO safety policy on the movement of traffic, runway safety, voluntary reporting, quality assurance and quality control. The Director oversees and provides day-to-day direction to a geographically dispersed workforce of over 125 managers and support professionals and a $14M budget.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Oversees the development of policies, standards, and procedures for the operation, safety, quality assurance, and quality control programs for ATO.
    • Establishes policy with respect to safety, investigations, quality assurance, and quality control within the ATO assigned by rule, regulation, or order under such terms, conditions, and limitations as may be deemed necessary and modifying or revoking such policy when required.
    • Oversees investigations and establishes policy on independent validation and verification of safety issues and incidences.
    • Provides technical assistance to ensure the horizontal integration of ATO safety and technical training mission and objectives throughout the organization.
