    Summary


    The employee in this position serves as a Fish Biologist for the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery. Primary duties include the production of warm water native fish species, primarily bonytail and razorback sucker for recovery program in the Colorado River basin. The Fish Biologist works cooperatively with Native American tribes, research institutions, state, local, and Federal cooperators.

    Responsibilities


    The duties of the position include but are not limited to:

    • Planning and performing a variety of operational tasks and applying culture techniques and procedures for production of warm water threatened and endangered fish
    • Monitoring water quality and collecting data for management evaluation of product and fish culture technique
    • Recording data and maintaining written records of fish production, tagging and distribution, and other work completed
    • Assisting in spawning, rearing, harvesting and inventory of fish
    • Ensuring proper maintenance of grounds, buildings, and hatchery equipment

    Physical Demands: The work requires considerable physical exertion when walking over wet, muddy, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting (feed, fertilizer, etc), seining (up to 100 feet), and netting. The work requires agility and dexterity in a harsh desert environment where temperatures may routinely and consistently exceed 100 F.

    Work Environment: Work is primarily outdoors. Temperature and weather extremes are encountered in outdoor work. The employee is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property with which entrusted.
