As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:

- Conduct a public affairs program specific to Multifamily Housing, which involves planning, designing, developing, and disseminating public affairs information and materials to inform and educate the public about Multifamily Housing programs, activities and services.
- Work includes all aspects of a public affairs program which entails the development of written materials, maintenance of effective working relationships with specialized groups, and recommending communication approaches to improve program effectiveness.
- Plan, design, develop and execute comprehensive, nationwide campaigns to convey information concerning the Multifamily Housing’s programs to individuals and organizations served or affected by those programs.
- Evaluate information, problems encountered in communicating Multifamily Housing programs. Advise on and recommend specific information activities designed to meet these problems. Analyze information requirements in terms of public needs to be met and provides advice on program information problems to program staff.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of the print and broadcast media, with national organizations, and with public affairs officials of state and local governments interested in Departmental programs.
- Develop plans for campaigns to disseminate information about programs and activities.

The Office of Housing provides vital public services through its nationally administered programs. It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing also helps ensure consumers can access housing counseling and provides affordable rental housing through its Multifamily housing program. The Office of Housing is committed to helping all Americans obtain safe, decent affordable housing.

The Office of Multifamily Housing is responsible for the overall management, development, direction and administration of HUD's Multifamily Housing Programs.  HUD's Multifamily programs provide mortgage insurance to HUD-approved lenders to facilitate the construction, substantial rehabilitation, purchase and refinancing of multifamily housing projects.  MFH is widely responsible for productionasset management and portfolio oversight, and recapitalization of assisted properties, and field operations.  As part of the National Housing Act of 1934, Congress created the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) which later became a part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Housing in 1965.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:

To be qualified for this position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. This experience is defined as:

- Communicating principles, methods and techniques that relate to the public affairs of an agency; AND
- Leading the development and implementation of communications initiatives; AND
- Analyzing and communicating issues with regard to policy and proposed projects to a wide variety of audiences.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
- If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
