Help

The IT Specialist provides oversight and feedback to MSHA workforce regarding data quality issues and data storage systems; performs professional work involving knowledge of the application of information technology, and skill in the use and troubleshooting software and hardware systems; provides support, recommendations and training for hardware/software in coordination with OCIO and PEIR; ensures rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices to the delivery of application software services; develops and administers databases used to store and retrieve data and develop standards for the handling of data; develops queries, reports, and dashboards from various data warehouse sources; maintains accurate IT equipment inventories; and participates in a variety of management studies, testing, planning, and data research activities.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-11, in the Federal Service. 

"Specialized experience" is experience in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of creditable experience include: Strong working background in Information systems and has an understanding of the methodology of new or upgraded software applications as well as the ability to assess user needs in order to develop and provide group and individual training on computer programs, hardware and applications, including instructions, training and troubleshooting in support of mission needs; develops queries and reports from the agency data warehouse for various groups throughout the district; develops computer generated presentations for managers and staff; provides statistical data and analysis for managers; designs, develops and implements specialized system software packages that require interaction of computer functions; tests new operating systems, applications, or information systems.
