Duties

Help
  • Conducts pre-appointment security checks by querying Security and Personnel offices, OPM, and the Joint Personnel Adjudication Systems (JPAS) concerning applicants for employment in OIG positions.
  • Conducts liaison with investigative and security elements of the DoD and other government agencies as it pertains to personnel security work.
  • Confirms clearance information to gaining agencies for employees terminating employment with the DoDOIG
  • Employee Identification Program: Administers the OIG Employee Identification Program. Takes photographs and prepares and issues OIG Credentials to authorized personnel.
  • Physical Security Program: Provide access controls for the Office of Security; ensures that all information has been safeguarded
  • Continually assesses administrative operations to detect any problem area and recommends action to Chief of Security to correct them, through modification of office procedures, if necessary.
  • Performs logistic support for the office staff.
  • Receives inquiries by phone from government officials and agencies, private industry, and the general public.
  • Answers each inquiry, providing technical and/or general information as requested and/or obtains all pertinent data and refers the matter to higher authority.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience is defined as: providing security guidelines to management in support of continuing operations of a facility or an organization; administering electronic access controls for verified personnel; and maintaining automated records for authorized property and personnel.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement when education is directly related to the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
