Qualifications
GS-13
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assigning tasks and advising employees on their individual workload in order to ensure all engineering efforts for the aircraft platform are efficiently managed; 2) Designing and developing prototype installations and modifications to reduce maintenance costs and maximize aircraft readiness; 3) Performing and directing engineering investigations to determine the root cause of failures and prescribe corrective action; 4) Preparing briefings and presenting recommendations for the most effective use of financial and manpower resources to other Naval Air Systems and Program Offices as well as military customers; 5) Providing technical support, feedback, and supportability analysis for application to new or upgraded weapon systems/equipment.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Establishing and adjusting maintenance tasks as necessary to correct deficiencies or configuration changes in accordance with project/system requirements; 2) Examining structures, components, or systems to determine if an aircraft is operating within its original design and certification parameters; 3) Examining stress analysis data to determine whether a part has failed its original design expectations; 4) Responding to technical and supportability questions from operating maintenance personnel.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
