Serves as a liaison for OIG to the DOJ and helps manage the prosecution team, which may encompass special agents and investigative support staff from multiple agencies, in all criminal and civil matters referred to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Identifies the scope of the prosecution and directs the strategic approach into the prosecution of Federal criminal/civil offenses. Reviews evidence collected by special agents and reaches an independent decision of the prosecutorial merit of each investigation. The incumbent is responsible for developing prosecution theories and methodologies to organize and present facts to Federal grand juries, empaneled juries and Federal judges.
Prepares all legal documents, including but not limited to, arrest warrants, search warrants, subpoenas, indictments, information, plea agreements, statements of fact, pre-trial motions and responses, jury instructions, post-trial motions and responses, sentencing positions, settlement agreements, and any necessary appellate briefs. Directs the discovery process. Prepares and tries criminal and civil cases. Incumbent represents the United States in matters before the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals. Incumbent may undertake prosecutive matters involving classified subject material. Will periodically brief Senior OIG management regarding work being done.
This position requires the incumbent to have access to highly classified/restricted data documents and/or materials, thus the position demands the highest degree of public trust and requires the incumbent possess a DOE Q-Sensitive security clearance. The incumbent may be subject to random selection for drug testing.
(1) Ability to handle extremely complex legal questions or factual issues.
(2) Experience acting as the principle attorney in charge.
(3) Ability to work without direct supervision.
(4) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD)
