Duties

Help

The incumbent will work across programs in DRL as all programs support research and development on areas related to this announcement. These programs include but are not limited to Cyberlearning, CSforAll, EHR Core Research, and Discovery Research preK-12. In addition, the incumbent may represent the Division on cross-Directorate programs with an emphasis on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Technology-Based Learning, or Computer Science Education as appropriate.

NSF Program Directors have an unparalleled opportunity and responsibility to ensure NSF funded activities are at the forefront of advancing fundamental knowledge. In support of that mission, Program Directors are responsible for extensive interaction with informal and formal educational organizations, academic and industry research communities, as well as interaction with other Federal agencies that may lead to the development of interagency collaborations. Within this context, Program Directors solicit, receive, and review proposals; make funding recommendations; administer awards; and undertake interaction with research communities in these fields. They are also responsible for service to the Foundation-wide activities and initiatives that together accomplish NSF’s strategic goals to;

1) Transform the Frontiers of Science and Engineering

2) Stimulate Innovation and Address Societal Needs through Research and Education

3) Excel as a Federal Science Agency.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in learning sciences, computer science, information technology, educational research, psychology or cognitive science, plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.

This position is outside the competitive civil service.

  4. Ability to formulate and participate in developing programmatic plans that respond to emerging areas of research.
  5. Experience in providing strategic leadership and management of a diverse team to define and achieve programmatic goals, especially considering resource constraints.
