Summary

Perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations individually or as part of a team.
Plan and conduct baseline, annual and special evaluations/hazard assessments of all areas employees conduct work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions, analyzes findings, and recommends corrective measures and controls.
Assist in the planning and conducting sampling using various instrumentation and equipment
Assess the need for quantitative industrial hygiene surveys and assessments in occupational work areas involving chemical and physical stressors.
Investigate health problems that arise among workers and recommend corrective actions.
Provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns.
Prepares technical reports identifying health hazards and recommends measure for the reduction or elimination.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess .
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate:
GS-11: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to conduct surveys to identify and evaluate health hazards and potential health hazards; calibrating and using industrial hygiene sampling instrumentation; selecting appropriate sampling equipment and techniques to determine the nature and degree of hazards.
GS-12: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to perform, organize and/or direct on-site surveys and investigations in offices, shops, aboard ships and aircraft, and conducts literature search to determine nature and severity of hazards present; evaluate physical and chemical hazards such as noise, explosives, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation, ventilation, pesticides within a workplace environment; utilize and calibrate industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as indoor air quality meters, infrared analyzers, and moisture meters to evaluate environment stresses; develop training programs on industrial hygiene and occupational health issues; serve as an panelist regarding industrial hygiene matters and federal regulations on physical and chemical hazards in the workplace; interpret legal requirements for hazardous material controls and disposal methods for environmental emergency contingency plans.

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link)at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
EVALUATION OF EDUCATION
All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.
