Duties

The position is located within Commander Navy Region Northwest, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Division, Morale, Welfare & Recreation, Deployed Forces Support Branch. The purpose of this position is to assist with the oversight of a 25,000 square foot warehouse that stores and issues fitness and recreation equipment to home ported military ashore and afloat commands.  Performs a wide range of warehousing activities including receiving, storing and issuing a variety of supplies, materials and equipment. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Coordinates deliveries with base supply center.   Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized warehouse to meet safety and fire regulations.  Determines organization, arrangement and layout of storage space.   Works with commands to coordinate the issue and pick-up of equipment, assist with set up/tear down of equipment at events. Provides preventive maintenance guidelines for shipboard fitness equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations. May administer basic preventative maintenance classes to command representatives in order to increase operational life span of equipment. May perform maintenance services, diagnosis and repairs of fitness equipment as necessary when contacted by an afloat command.  Operates stake trucks, pallet jack, fork lifts, dollies, box truck with lift gate, hi-lift pallet stacker, etc. Maintains maintenance and inspection records for all associated vehicles.  Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required.
  • Work environment is primarily in a warehouse facility that may be hot, damp, drafty or poorly lighted and may also take place on a ship or submarine.
  • Required to wear protective gear (PPE). Work requires prolonged standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, walking long distances, bending, stooping, pulling, reaching and lifting or pushing heavy objects.
  • Incumbent must be in good physical condition, able to lift and move objects weighing as much as 75 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, and navigate through tight entries and/or cramped spaces aboard ships or submarines.

Qualifications

Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Must possess or be able to obtain a fork lift driver’s license within first 60 days of employment which requires passing a medical examination prior to taking the fork lift classes and exam. Possess or ability to obtain first aid and CPR certifications within 90 days of reporting to the job. Must be able to obtain a fitness equipment repair certification within six months of accepting the position which can be obtained on-the-job through manufacturer training workshops.  Must be able to obtain a certification from SIOTO (safe inflatable operators training organization which is obtained on the job.

Possess the ability to read and comprehend manuals and instructions used in the repair of equipment. Knowledge of record keeping related to preventative maintenance and inventory control. Knowledge of tools and equipment required in the maintenance and repair of equipment.  Proficient in the use of a hand and power tools.   Must be proficient with a computer and have basic knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to communicate effectively verbally.  Possess a minimum of 1 year of direct customer service experience.
