Duties

Help

As a Lead Archives Technician, you will:

  • Lead a group of employees engaged in activities associated with the retrieval, delivery and refile of military personnel records. Make work assignments, conducts training and auditing as required, and personally performs the same duties as the employees led. Including analyzing pending work and batching, printing (if necessary) and preparing for assignment search requests (all types), refiles, and interfiles in accordance with the Center's queue discipline. Resolve problems by analyzing inquiries and data to determine appropriate next steps when required records cannot be located through normal means.
  • Visit the records storage areas throughout the day to answer any questions employees might have and to ensure that in-file operations are being performed correctly and with a sense of urgency. Monitor working conditions such as safety, lighting, equipment, etc. and reports potential or actual problems for correction.
  • Ensure search and refile actions are properly documented. Identify bottlenecks and delays in workflow and intervening to ensure prompt resolution. Provide supplemental training and conducts quality audits for assigned area of production.
  • Refer complaints to supervisor; reports to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees. Make suggestions to supervisor concerning staffing, employee recognition, work processes, and IT applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

The first part of the interview process for this position requires candidates to pass a physical abilities test designed to measure candidates' ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. The test requires carrying 50-pound boxes like those found on the job. It also requires bending, squatting, and walking to reach the boxes in addition to climbing and balancing on a pulpit ladder up to 15 feet high.

Specialized experience for the GS-05 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes providing attention to detail regarding data inputting, and making decisions to resolve customer inquiries. Examples of this may include:

  • Communicating with various types of customers in person or by telephone; OR
  • Using software for data entry; OR
  • Responding to inquiries or requests for various information

OR

You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
