Summary

About the Position:

Serves as Protocol Action Officer for the Chief of Protocol as a member of the Protocol Division in the USARPAC Strategy and Effects (FXD) Directorate. Provides Protocol support to the USARPAC Commanding General, Deputy Commanding General, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Secretary of the General Staff, USARPAC staff principals and their Action Officers.

Duties

Help
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes command level award, promotion, retirement, and assumption of command ceremonies; formal military ceremonies and receptions; and official social functions.
  • Independently conceptualizes plans, coordinates, facilitates and executes all protocol requirements and support for VIP and high-ranking US and foreign visitors and guests visiting USARPAC.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in matters pertaining to proper ceremonial forms, honors, courtesies, etiquette, and other protocol issues.
  • Organizes social and protocol arrangements for official presentations and events including honors, awards, promotions retirements, and assumption-of-command ceremonies.
  • Maintains all records and files of expenditures for official dinners, luncheons, receptions, and social events hosted by the senior command officers.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing protocol support functions for ceremonies, receptions and social functions; preparing invitations and recording responses; preparing rosters and seating charts; planning and coordinating travel arrangements and itineraries for distinguished visitors and guests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study].

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

  • Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army employee.
  • Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended up to a maximum of five years, and may be made permanent without further competition.
