Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Public Affairs Office of a major military medical treatment facility (MTF) coordinating public communications activities to promote and market Tripler Army Medical Center.
  • Conduct interviews to produce news and feature articles.
  • Responsible for submitting content to various publications in various formats to ensure widest dissemination of information.
  • Produce press releases and media advisories.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of social media websites to include scheduled and unscheduled posting on Facebook, Twitter, Flicker, etc.
  • Assist Chief of Public Affairs with planning, development and execution of community relations/outreach and public engagements.
  • Serve as Team Leader for assigned projects and events.

  • A background investigation and credit check are required. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires temporary duty travel 10% or less of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the development of public affairs campaigns conveying information to selected audiences; writing news releases on routine events of non-controversial subjects; and participating in meetings with specialized groups to listen to and understand feedback on programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Journalism, Communication, English Writing, Public Relations, or Broadcast.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Employees will become DoD employees upon transfer to the DHA.
