This person serves as a Librarian (Medical) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS). NF/SGVHS includes two affiliated medical centers in Gainesville and Lake City, outpatient clinics in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, The Villages, and Valdosta as well as community-based outpatient clinics in Lecanto, Marianna, Palatka, St. Augustine, St. Marys, and Waycross, and numerous off-site locations.
The librarian provides support of the day-to-day operations of the both the Medical Library and the General Patient Library at the Malcom Randall VAMC located in Gainesville, FL under the direction of the Supervisory Librarian. This person provides occasional support to the Lake City VAMC Library operations in Lake City, FL.
Major Duties:
Participates in interdisciplinary hospital-wide committees such as Research, IRB, Evidence-Based Practice, Professional Development, taskforces or system-wide initiatives;
Develops and maintains a clinical librarian program by participating in Morning Reports, huddles, rounds, and continuously engages with trainees and clinical staff;
Serves as primary contact for the NF/SG VHS Healthpads (ipads and mobile technology) program via the VHA Mobile Health Program; offering technological assistance to staff;
Carries out complex and highly specialized biomedical, nursing and allied health, health management and business, and legal literature searches utilizing multiple databases including, but not limited to MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Collaboration, Health Business Elite, etc.
Assists in the Library's maintenance of its SharePoint, Intranet, and Libguides (website)
Develops and provides training to all staff on library resources; assists and supports development of effective user aids and training;
Assists library users with library desktop computers and equipment such as portable DVD players, eBook readers, ipads/tablets, medical apps, etc.;
Assists with the technical aspects of library operations such as interlibrary loan (e.g., document delivery) utilizing DOCLINE and OCLC systems; assists with maintenance of the library catalog and all other electronic subscriptions
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
