Duties

Help

The physician serves as a staff physician for the Roseburg VA Health Care System Primary Care Service with training in Primary Care, Family Practice, or Internal Medicine. The physician's primary duties involve serving as a staff provider in a multidisciplinary Primary Care Team. The incumbent has a high degree of motivation, skill, and dedication to effectively deliver Primary Care including medication management, tapers of controlled substances to include opioids. They conduct initial screening, assessment, and diagnosis, and assess acute and long-term risk, and is broadly acquainted with various clinical treatment modalities and clinical support systems for an array of chronic and acute conditions. Some services may be provided via telehealth to their clinics. The incumbent is familiar with telehealth technologies and telehealth systems administration. The incumbent has excellent organizational skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for delivering distance-based biopsychosocial services to a diverse population of Veterans. The physician will work closely and collaboratively with the team, specialty care and other disciplines, so strong skills in communication and coordination of care with a large inter-professional team and stakeholders are necessary. Patients served tend to include Veterans with chronic conditions, often with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions, opioids-safety concerns, or complex functional barriers. The incumbent may also deliver additional clinical services physically or via telehealth at sites of care (e.g., North Bend, Brookings, Eugene, Roseburg) at some in interval. The incumbent may also participate in program development, quality improvement, and evaluation. Depending on the specific qualifications of the physician and the specific position's source of funding, the allocation of these duties will vary.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/20/2019.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Phsyical: Physical requirements outlined below.

Physical Requirements: Moderate Lifting, 15-44 lbs.; Light lifting, under 15 lbs.; Light carrying, under 15 lbs./ Straight pulling (5 hrs.); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (1 hrs.); Standing (2 hrs.); Near vision correctable at 13: to 16: to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors.
