Duties

Help

As an Information Technology (IT) Specialist for Management and Administration, you will be responsible for providing a variety of IT services to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) workforce, predominately in the areas of systems analysis, database management and Internet support. The incumbent independently works with OIG staff to develop user requirements and write programs to fulfill these requirements.  Partner with other IT Specialists for purposes of developing and administering the OIG systems used to store and retrieve data and develop standards for handling of data.  Provide expert authoritative advice and guidance on managing the OIG websites and managing the OIG homepage.  Serve as the IT Security Officer for the OIG.  Evaluate, procure and maintain a wide variety of hand-held, desktop, laptop, and mobile computing devices used by OIG employees at all levels to include senior management.

Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of service equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position.

Appointment to this position may be subject to successful completion of a 1-year probationary period.

This position requires a security clearance and is subject to drug testing. The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to pass subsequent tests could result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.

Qualifications

You may qualify for this position based on specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.  To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. 
 
 Examples of specialized experience include:   

Working with customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance and resolving their problems.  Ensuring proper implementation and adherence to IT security policies.  Evaluating and recommending hardware/software changes.  Developing and implementing web design features.  Providing clear and concise oral presentations. 

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.
