Duties

Help

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for establishing and implementing NSF's digital and social media strategy in support of the Agency's mission, policies and goals. The incumbent will produce and distribute content through social media platforms and lead and oversee efforts of a distributed team of digital and social media contributors across OLPA and NSF. The incumbent will provide guidance to OLPA leadership on social media best practices, policy, and upcoming social media activities. Specifically, the incumbent will:

  • Formulate strategies to ensure that the agency best takes advantage of social media.
  • Develop and enforce policy documents governing social media use, both in general and for specific tools.
  • Manage, edit and approve all daily content and interactions on NSF’s existing and future social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • Plan, design, and execute a social media program to inform and educate general and specialized audiences, both external and internal, about NSF and OLPA programs (congressional and public affairs), activities and services.
  • Initiate, develop, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with NSF staff for developing New Media/Social Media networks and outlets.
  • Maintain liaison and provide public affairs advice to NSF on new social media engagement.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, guidance and feedback to NSF’s distributed team of social media contributors.
  • Write content for public audiences, including brochures, fact sheets, talking points and other material.
  • Edit web news and feature content for NSF.gov and Science360.gov.
  • Develop standard metrics or other system of evaluating NSF’s social media program for effectiveness, reach and impact.
  • Research and monitor new areas of social media communication and advise OLPA leadership on social media platforms, trends, tactics, metrics and techniques.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.

You must meet eligibility and qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Examples of such experience include: participating in a social media outreach program at an agency/organization; producing, reviewing and submitting content for distribution on social media platforms; moderating comments on social media sites; and ensuring social media content compliance with established policies and regulations.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal service. Examples of such experience include: leading and overseeing a social media outreach program at an agency/organization; producing, distributing, and managing content through social media platforms; developing and enforcing policies related to social media use; providing direction to team members responsible for content published on social media sites; and evaluating social media outreach success. 

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.
