Duties

Help
  • The Aerospace Engineer leads teams in planning for and conducting analyses, tests, verification and validation and leads the overall technical management and technical solution of assigned projects.
  • Provides authoritative decisions in areas such as flight systems or measurement and instrumentation systems; variety of project types from aircraft/spacecraft, instruments for aircraft/spacecraft, aeronautics projects advancing the state of the art.
  • Contributes to the accomplishment of agency program objectives, such as planning and implementing precedent-setting national standards for project/program management systems, operations, and controls.
  • Performs engineering planning and execution for assigned projects, such as requirements development and tracking, technical scheduling and layout of operations, and planning for budget requirements.
  • Defines, develops, and evaluates flight systems operation requirements and objectives, mission requirements and design considerations.
  • Serves as an expert consultant in planning, monitoring, and administering projects characterized by a sometimes greatly changing physical environment, critical problems, or other similar variables and unknowns.
  • Serves as the Agency authority on technical committees and advisory groups concerned with establishing and administering standards for engineering programs.
  • Provides highly advanced technical guidance and information to top level administrative and technical agency personnel.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) time in grade at the GS-14 grade level to be eligible for consideration at the GS-15 grade level.

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-14), which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Qualification Requirements for the GS-15 :

One year of specialized experience is defined as experience in leading the development of a technical review or assessment in two or more of the following areas: flight systems, systems engineering, requirements verification, verification testing, systems analysis, requirements definition, or validation testing.

Education

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the Basic Education Requirement

Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major in either a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science, Other fields of science.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

The accreditation, type of degree, and course work taken will determine if the basic education requirement is met.
