Duties

Help
  • As a Public Affairs Specialist you will be responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing content and audience engagement on the Army's primary social media platforms.
  • Work collaboratively across the entire organization, other Public Affairs Offices, Department of Defense and other federal agencies to execute a modern social media program, drive engagement, grow audience, and build communities.
  • Ensure the Army's host of social media platforms, which currently include Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn, provide accurate, policy-compliant, engaging and timely information.
  • Provide analysis of social media strategies and platform performance reports including metrics, trend analysis and recommendations for future efforts.
  • Serve as a social media advisor, providing guidance to OCPA and Army-wide public affairs personnel on social media.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing official social media platforms on behalf of an organization; developing multimedia content optimized for specific social media platforms; developing modern social media approaches in support of communication campaigns; presenting briefings and determining effective channels of communication for specific programs, utilizing a variety of communications channels; providing technical advice in areas such as digital media.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

  • This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to a permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".
  • This position may be extended in 1 year increments.
