Duties

Help
  • You will align, troubleshoot, test, inspect, repair, modify, calibrate and certify precision measurement equipment.
  • You will analyze and isolate component malfunctions.
  • You will calculate and determine tolerances and perform test and calibration in accordance with instructions, which are often vague and incomplete.
  • You will analyze circuits and prepare or interpret detailed diagrams and schematics to effectively calibrate and certify a variety of complex electronic precision measurement equipment, instruments, and standards.
  • You will set up system test sets and various types of test equipment such as frequency meters, radio frequency power meters, time frequency work stations, oscillators, voltmeters, electronic counters, oscilloscopes and attenuators.
  • You will use various precision measurement instruments and standards such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, pulse generators, frequency counters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, dead weight tester, mercury manometers and optical fixtures.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform common tasks including apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics and electronics to calibrate and certify a variety of electrical, electronic and/or physical/dimensional test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); use automated procedures, technical orders, technical bulletins and technical manuals to perform work; identify and use appropriate measurement procedures; perform corrective action to address calibration problems; document the calibration process, prepare and affix calibration labels and note any "out of tolerances" and the extent of deviations encountered. My work is reviewed periodically and upon completion by a supervisor or higher graded journeyman for compliance with requirements. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
