As a Supervisory Hydrologist within the Washington Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Exercises first-line supervision of personnel in the Watersheds and Pluvial Systems Section, including career development, recruitment, performance evaluations, complaint resolution, promotions, training, awards, and disciplinary measures.
-Assures the technical adequacy and satisfactory conduct of all hydrologic studies, research, and related work in the Watersheds and Pluvial Systems Section.
-Participates in broad-scope, complex hydrologic research and interdisciplinary investigations that address watersheds and fluvial systems, such as geomorphology, river mechanics, floodplain processes and dynamics, sediment transport, precipitation runoff processes, and impacts of climate processes.
-Meets with local, State, Native American, and/or other Federal agencies throughout Washington to develop hydrologic studies, including advising on types of studies needed.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
This position requires completion of a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period, if one has not previously been completed.
Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. In addition to the basic education requirements, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience include planning, executing and reporting on original hydrologic studies or ongoing hydrologic studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems. The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable. At this level, Hydrologists have extensive knowledge of the principles of hydrology and working knowledge of related fields of chemistry, geology, aquatic ecology, and geomorphology. They have highly developed ability in their application, and wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility.
