The Social Services Assistant is located at the Unity Healing Treatment Center, Cherokee, NC. This position will report to the Supervisory Social Services Assistant in the 16 bed Unity Treatment facility.
Summary
The Social Services Assistant is located at the Unity Healing Treatment Center, Cherokee, NC. This position will report to the Supervisory Social Services Assistant in the 16 bed Unity Treatment facility.

Monitors residents at all times and screens visitors, phone calls, and family visits.
Transports clients to and from the treatment center for off campus activities, appointments, emergency health care or other professional resources as needed.
Trains and assists with self-administered medications, accurately monitors and records clients medication.
Accompanies and participates in resident activities such as, walking, hiking,biking,rock climbing and rappelling, canoeing,swimming, over-night camping, basketball,tennis and softball.
Serves as a healthy positive role model and leader, encourages compliance of the program, provides residential orientation, demonstrates respect and safe reassurance towards adolescents.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
Drug testing is required for this position.
Rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must have valid unrestricted drivers license.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates for GS-5 must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that (a) included at 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care.
Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:· Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs.· Counselor in a youth summer camp.· Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills.· Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew.· Group activities leader in the Armed Services.· Unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility.· Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development.· Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities.· Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.
