    This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), National Soil Erosion Research Laboratory, located in West Lafayette, IN.

    The incumbent of this position will support Soil Scientists and Agricultural Engineers conducting research on soil fertility and the impact of conservation practices on water quality.

    • Collect and evaluate soil, plant, fecal, water and waste material samples.
    • Keep exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments.
    • Assist in one or more phases of a water chemistry, agronomy, or soils research process by performing a variety of technical duties in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment in support of plant research.
    • Maintain, calibrate and modify laboratory equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
    • Utilize the following equipment: colorimetric spectroscopy; ICP-AES; AA; HPLC; GC; automated flow measurement equipment; and automated flow sampling equipment.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required for field work.
