    Responsibilities

    As an Attorney-Advisor with the Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor, Division of General Law, Employment and Labor Law Unit your specific duties will include:

    Serving as a trial attorney and legal advisor handling federal sector employment litigation, policy and counseling matters, including human resources, employment discrimination and labor relations issues.

    Advising senior Departmental and Bureau officials on federal employment litigation and policy, including Title 5 of the United States Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, labor relations pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Service Reform Act, and various executive orders and regulations pertaining to employment actions, including discrimination and labor relations as they relate to federal employment, and relevant civil rights statutes falling under the Department's public civil rights programs.

    Representing the agency in litigation before the Merit Systems Protection Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Federal Labor Relations Authority, the Federal Service Impasses Panel, arbitrators, and grievance examiners. Taking and defending depositions and eliciting testimony at trial.

    Providing superior oral advocacy at hearings and well organized and well researched written products under tight deadlines.

    Comprehensively researching novel areas of law and providing legal memoranda as requested by clients.

    Working closely with and assisting Justice Department attorneys to represent the DOI in federal civil litigation involving discrimination and other employment related claims.  Working closely with clients from the Department's Office of Civil Rights, the Director of Human Resources, Bureau human resources, labor relations and EEO offices, and senior Departmental management officials.
