The incumbent provides specialized expertise to analyze oral health epidemiologic studies and other collected data, and applies this knowledge to complex and critical problems in the important areas of surveillance, program evaluation, and community-based research.
Summary

Consult on scientific and technical issues about the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques used in oral health research, dentistry and dental care services, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
Apply knowledge to complex and critical problems in the broad areas of surveillance, program evaluation, and community-based research.
Develop, implement, evaluate, analyze, report, and disseminate findings from studies and research projects that rely on epidemiologic and statistical methods.
Function as a national and international oral health scientist and provide expert scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems.
Lead a team of experts who provide specialized expertise in analyzing oral health epidemiologic studies and other collected data through the use of highly complex statistical packages and computer models.

Education: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have one year of professional dentistry experience at the GP-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in (or equivalent) to the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph:
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience planning, designing, developing, and conducting epidemiological and other studies related to oral diseases conditions and behaviors.
Additional Requirements for the GP-14: In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GP-13 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete one year of full-time experience in professional dentistry work and/or training that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Education
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. Additional information
In addition to the normal salary range, when applicable requirements are met, this position may provide additional compensation through the Physicians and Dentist Pay under Title 38 (PDP).
