Duties

Help

  • Functioning independently as a member of the PM&R Medical Staff with full clinical privileges.
  • Being accessible and available to personnel in the Rehab team and Primary Care and Specialty Clinics for consultation on complex cases.
  • Providing assessment of physical and functional status of Veterans in the Physical Medicine Clinics.
  • Providing comprehensive oversight for the electromyography program, the CARF accredited Low Vision Program, and polytrauma program.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advocating for the Veteran for access to care for individuals with functional limitations, hearing/speech limitations, and participation restrictions.
  • Assisting Veterans through appropriate referral to staff that can help facilitate removal of architectural, environmental, attitudinal, financial, communication, employment, transportation and other barriers to individuals with disabilities.
  • Ensuring that consults requesting Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services are performed in a timely manner and that the results are made readily available to the referring practitioners.
  • Ensuring direct patient care in his/her programs is clinically necessary and appropriate.
  • Assuming complete professional responsibility for clinical assessments, patient-care decisions and documentation.
  • Promoting and assuring coverage for telehealth practice and activities.
  • Assisting in the design, development and implementation of clinical programs.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Part-Time)

Recruitment and Retention incentives may be authorized. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirement, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2019.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: BC/BE American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing or walking for a major portion of the work day. In the clinics you may need to assist patients into the examinations rooms when in wheel chairs or on carts, which could consist of a variety of standing, walking, twisting, turning, sitting, bending, pushing, carrying and light lifting. This may be considered demanding physical activity.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
